RFM 3230 - Retail Merchandising- Promotional Strategy


This course provides an overview and understanding of the social psychological communication governing the design and organization of both producer and consumer buying and selling space. Emphasis is on critical analysis and practical application of the way in which goods, services, and ideas can be promoted within the retail merchandising and fashion product development industry.

Requisites: RFM 1010 and 2600
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

  • Students will be able to explain effective strategies for developing creative concepts.
  • Students will be able to critically analyze visual merchandising messages in contempory retail and fashion product development outlets.
  • Students will be able to explain the strategic purpose of retail atmospherics.
  • Students will be able to examine how the quality of the messenger affects the quality of the message in effective retail environment presentation and packaging.
  • Students will be able to explain how branding as a sales strategy involves appeal to affiliation, emotion, and intellect.
  • Students will be able to create visual imaging, packaging, displays, and merchandising strategies.
