SASM 4180 - Economics of Sport


This course is designed to examine major economic issues in the sport industry and introduce the methodology of economics that can be used to analyze these issues.

Requisites: SASM 1001 or SASM 1010
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to explain the concepts of Freakonomics.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to create Moneyball strategies for a Major League Baseball team.
  • Students will be able to explain how globalization of sport can drive economic growth.
  • Students will be able to apply economic impact study principles to a current sport or recreation facility.
  • Students will be able to apply the principles of economics to major sports leagues, organizations and/or governing bodies.
  • Students will be able explain a feasibility study for a sport or recreation facility.
