THAR 1110 - Fundamentals of Performance I


Development of the student’s personal creative resources. Fundamentals of acting, voice and movement are introduced. Emphasis is placed on sensory awareness, breath, energy, presence, spontaneity, imagination, action, and working within an ensemble through exercises and improvisation.

Requisites: Theater major
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 6.0 studio
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate sustained concentration and focus on a given activity.
  • Execute simple acting exercises in front of an audience with spontaneity and heightened awareness.
  • Identify and implement key elements of creative improvisation.
  • Incorporate physical and vocal flexibility as a preparation for further training.
  • Work effectively and cohesively in an acting ensemble.
