REAL 2010 - Real Estate Appraising


The real estate appraising course exposes students to the practice and process of appraising real property in Ohio. It provides students with information about the appraising profession, the methods of real estate appraisal, and the appraiser licensing process.

Requisites: REAL 1010
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to describe the steps in the uniform standardized real estate appraisal process.
  • Students will be able to explain the three primary methods of appraising real estate: the cost approach, the market approach, and the income approach.
  • Students will be able to describe and apply the final appraisal reconciliation process.
  • Students will be able to define and summarize the role and function of real estate appraisal.
  • Students will be able to apply the appraisal process to sample appraisals.
  • Students will be able to calculate appraisal values using the income capitalization, sales comparison, and cost approaches.
  • Students will be able to interpret current data on real estate to determine the financial impact of depreciation and obsolescence on the value of real estate.
