REAL 2040 - Real Estate Finance


An introduction to the essential elements of real estate finance includes the current real estate market, the types and sources of real estate loans, the real estate residential and commercial loan process, the foreclosure process in Ohio, the role and function of the secondary market, the government involvement in real estate finance, and the construction and development lending process.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to describe the types and sources of real estate loans.
  • Students will be able to evaluate how the current economy impacts real estate finance.
  • Students will be able to identify the steps in obtaining a residential or commercial real estate loan.
  • Students will be able to describe the foreclosure process in Ohio.
  • Students will be able to solve real estate finance problems involving Loan-to-Value ratios, Debt-to-Income ratios, and Gross Rent Multipliers.
  • Students will be able to construct and practice interviews and surveys of mortgage lenders, real estate investors, consumers.
  • Students will be able to discuss and analyze the real estate finance and the current real estate market.
  • Students will be able to analyze data from the Federal Reserve with regard to the role and structure of the secondary market.
  • Students will be able to discuss key real estate interest rates and analyze these trends on interest rate surveys.
