DSI 1921 - Environmental Observation in Interpreting


Provides opportunities for students to examine a variety of potential interpreting environments and theoretically apply demand and control schema and professional decision making to real life situations.

Requisites: DSI 1610 and 2110
Credit Hours: 1
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Accurately employ setting specific terminology in discussions.
  • Describe the norms for interaction in a variety of settings.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of proposed controls based on possible consequences, resultant demands and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Explain the role of demand control analysis in professional decision making.
  • Identify a range of possible controls along a continuum of liberal to conservative an interpreter may use to respond to demands identified.
  • Identify EIPA demands present in a variety of settings.
  • Students will discuss how similar settings may generate different demands.
  • Students will discuss their observations in a professional manner.
