DSI 2120 - Intermediate American Sign Language II


Continuation of DSI 2110. Continues to work toward fluency in ASL. Focuses on ASL idioms, ASL and English comparisons, advanced classifiers, current news, and conversational ASL.

Requisites: C or better in DSI 2110 and WARNING: No credit for both this course and the following (always deduct credit for first course taken): CSD 2120
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Attend and support events with members of the Deaf community.
  • Describe ASL literature and explain its importance to Deaf culture.
  • Expressively and receptively demonstrate current news in mainstream and Deaf culture.
  • Expressively and receptively narrate stories involving two or more characters incorporating classifiers and role-shifting.
  • Expressively and receptively sign information about describing and identifying things using classifiers.
  • Expressively and receptively use ASL to discuss about rules in general.
  • Expressively and receptively use ASL to discuss issues related to health and wellness.
  • In-depth reception and expression of ASL literature.
  • Students will examine ASL idioms and compare them with English idioms.
