ENGT 2210 - Programmable Logic Controllers 1 and Motor Controls


Introduction to motor control principles of electric relay ladder logic using three-phase electric motors found in industrial applications, followed by an introduction to basic PLC programming.

Requisites: ENGT 2200 or IMT 2200
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 1.0 lecture, 4.0 laboratory

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to design, operate, and troubleshoot three-phase AC motor control circuits.
  • Students will be able to identify and operate a basic start/stop memory logic circuit.
  • Students will be able to design and operate a reversing motor control circuit.
  • Students will be able to design and operate a basic motor control timer circuit.
  • Students will be able to identify components of a PLC.
  • Students will be able to design a PLC program to control the start/stop of a bidirectional motor.
