INST 1001 - Cross Cultural Preparation for Study Abroad

This course deals with the theory and practice of living and studying in other cultures and is designed specifically for students preparing to participate in one of OHIO’s education abroad programs. Students gain the culture-general skills and critical thinking to explore and understand both their own culture and the culture of their host country. Through class discussions and homework assignments, students apply the general ideas and concepts discussed in the course to their particular host country. The development of an informed cross cultural perspective is essential if students are to have a transformative learning experience and gain the maximum academic, cultural and social benefit from their academic experience abroad. The cross cultural course component is complemented by a course segment focused on teaching students the skill set required to successfully navigate the logistics of study abroad.
