INST 4950 - War and Peace Studies Seminar


The aim is of the course is to question the root causes of violence and to explore pathways to sustainable peace from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Learning Outcomes:  
  • Students will acquire cross-cultural understandings of peace traditions and conflict patterns.
  • Students will be able to present and explain their research findings effectively to an audience containing students from a variety of major disciplines.
  • Students will be able to secure information from a variety of sources and acquire increasingly complex intellectual skills.
  • Students will gain the capacity for synthesis through weaving complex strands of social and economic dynamics into of definable issues of war and peace.
  • Students will have a sense of responsibility in working towards sustainable peace.
  • Students will have the ability to make independent judgments on conflict and to carry out constructive changes towards sustainable peace.
  • Students will learn how to work collaboratively with students from a variety of major disciplines through focused group discussions and debates.
