PETE 4600 - Principles, Theories and Methods of Teaching Physical Education


This course is designed to refine the teaching methodologies in physical education within lecture, lab, and clinical settings. This course provides opportunities to learn and experience best teaching practices, principles and theories for planning, instruction, assessment, and reflection in authentic physical education settings. Additionally, students are required to engage in 112 clinical hours in physical education public school classrooms.

Requisites: PETE 3401
Credit Hours: 5
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture, 4.0 laboratory, 2.0 field experience/internship
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • The students will be able to design age and developmentally appropriate, standards-based lesson and unit plans.
  • The students will be able to deliver instruction though current teaching best practices within their clinical placement.
  • The students will be able to develop and implement formative and summative assessments.
  • The students will be able to analyze and synthesize student learning and teaching effectiveness.
