MUS 4000 - Classroom Assessment and Management for Music Educators


This course examines the role assessment plays into the development of the music curriculum, as well as explores effective management strategies for behavior in the music classroom. This class fosters knowledge, dispositions and skills required by Praxis II and Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession. Teacher candidates are given opportunities to develop various assessment tools, analyze current models, and read and discuss current research literature to make informed decisions about assessment and classroom management. Additionally, students examine legal issues and rights for teachers and students and work to create a positive, nurturing classroom environment.

Requisites: Jr standing in Music Education
Credit Hours: 2
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

  • Students will be able to Identify and demonstrate skills of effective classroom management in the music classroom.
  • Students will be able to make informed decisions on classroom management strategies grounded in current music education research.
