MUS 3700 - Applied Conducting


This course provides select, one-on-one instruction at the advanced level. Emphasis is placed on refining the individual student’s conducting ability and musicianship. The study of expressive gesture, score study, and musical interpretation are part of this course. Students will be assigned individualized musical scores, providing the primary focus for study.

Requisites: (MUS 4560 or 4561) and permission required
Credit Hours: 1 - 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 6.0 hours.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 studio
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I

  • Students will be able to demonstrate advanced movement and conducting technique through studio instruction.
  • Students will be able to explain their conducting philosophy and demonstrate musical leadership skills.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate detailed score study and analysis skills.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate advanced rehearsal technique and interpretation.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate refined technique and expression through select conducting opportunities with student ensembles in and outside of class.
