DANC 2280 - Tap Dance II


This is an advanced tap course that broadens the technical range, movement vocabulary, and aesthetic choices of students. Course exploration focuses on challenging, extended warm-up sequences, across the floor progressions, and center floor combinations that require students to apply technical proficiencies in tap. This course aims to expand the technical and expressive capacities of students through continued work on intricate rhythms, steps, and foot articulations that require whole body integration. Additionally, students explore a fusion of historical and contemporary forms of tap dance and participate in the advanced study of improvisation, choreographic study, and musicianship.

Requisites: DANC 1280 or permission
Credit Hours: 1.5
Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 3.0 hours.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 studio

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to perform advanced tap vocabulary through challenging and extended movement combinations.
  • Students will be able to create and perform comprehensive tap phrases.
  • Students will be able to identify and improvise complex rhythmic tap structures and steps.
  • Students will be able to discuss and demonstrate a fusion of historical and contemporary forms of tap dance.
