THAR 1394 - Fundamentals of Lighting and Sound Design Principles and Stage Management


This course is an introduction to the skills, techniques, terminology, rationale, and safety practices of designing and implementing theatrical lighting, sound, and stage management.

Requisites: WARNING: No credit if taken after THAR 1390 or 1392
Credit Hours: 4
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 1.0 tutorial, 1.0 lecture, 4.0 studio
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • The student will be able to compare and contrast lighting and sound design and technology and how they work together in the theater
  • The student will be able to work as a contributing member of a creative or production team
  • The student will be able to apply the principles of collaboration to future theatrical endeavors
  • The student will be able to explain the roles of different members of a creative team and how they collaborate to produce a production.
  • The student will be able to understand the role of a Stage Manager and how this person unifies the production
