INST 2700 - Social Media and Global Change


Social media platforms are used for various purposes such as for networking, information gathering, and to organize social change movements around the world. This course critically explores theoretical and pragmatic aspects of social change campaigns focused on the issues of race, gender, health, politics, and global migration across various cultures.

Learning Outcomes:  
  • Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of various cultures as they are represented in social media and global movements.
  • Students will be able to apply the knowledge about social movements in a given cultural context to campaigns and movements in other cultural settings.
  • Students will be able to create engaging and culturally sensitive content for various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
