ETM 1130 - Introduction to Engineering and Technological Sciences
This class introduces the interdisciplinary scientific principles that drive modern engineering and how the scientific process is applied for practical means. The course includes the study of materials and processing, mechanical reasoning, documentation, and design. The course is open to students of all disciplines and does not require a background in sciences and engineering for successful completion.
Requisites: Warning: No credit if ETM 1120
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 laboratory
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to describe the nature of polymer materials such as wood, their physical properties, and standard methods of processing.
- Student will be able to describe the scientific principles that drives the selection of processing methods for materials.
- Students will be able to interpret basic documentations such as rudimentary schematics, graphs, diagrams, and work instructions.
- Students will be able to use critical thinking skills to identify a problem, consider assumptions, and use data to create simple products in a timely and safe manner under a laboratory setting
- Students will be able to perform basic measurements on products and outline scientific factors that affect their quality and functionality.
