MATH 1060L - Support for Quantitative Reasoning
The course is a co-requisite course for MATH 1060 Quantitative Reasoning for students who need extra support. It is taken concurrently with MATH 1060 and provides just-in-time support/review of concepts and skills needed to successfully complete MATH 1060. This course develops skills to support student engagement, critical thinking, and problem solving in a variety of mathematical and quantitative contexts. Additionally, the course develops organizational skills, spreadsheet skills, word-processing skills, a growth mindset, self-efficacy, and means to overcome various forms of anxiety. Not recommended for students with majors in STEM areas. No credit if MATH 1250 or any higher have been completed. Cannot be used for College of Arts and Sciences Natural Science Distribution Requirement.

Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to use a systematic list or table; look for patterns; identify extreme cases; use a picture; guess and check; act it out; use algebra; break a problem into subproblems; and try a special case.
- Students will be able to read with understanding text written in English that contains quantitative information.
- Students will be able to make inferences from mathematical and statistical graphs, tables, charts and other visual displays of quantitative information.
- Students will be able to watch live presentations and videos and listen to podcasts that contain quantitative information and to do so with understanding.
- Students will be able to use appropriate units of measurement; compute with common fractions, decimal fractions, and percents; and interpret ratios and proportions to solve problems in real-world contexts.
- Students will be able to design a weekly calendar and a semester calendar and use these calendars as tools for organization and productivity and to design a current monthly budget and a projected post-graduation budget.
- Students will be able to use a spreadsheet as a tool to solve problems, use a word processor as a tool to write reports, and use presentation software as a tool to present reports.
- Students will be able to complete activities to cultivate growth mindset.
