EDTE 3550 - Introduction to Secondary Social Studies Content and Practice


This course provides foundational knowledge, skills, and dispositions to be a social studies teacher of grades 7-12. Students learn about the history of social studies in schools, disciplinary concepts and research-based practices of social studies, how to design social studies curricula and assessments, and pedagogical approaches to cultivate civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions in schools and communities.

Requisites: C or better in EDSE 3500; No Credit if: EDSE 3510
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

  • Students will be able to evaluate responsive pedagogy practices and create interdisciplinary learning environments.
