FILM 3820 - Art and Aesthetics of Editing


This course provides students with an aesthetic framework in order to promote the integration of creative, technical and analytical skills leading to proficiency in artistic expression in filmmaking.

Requisites: FILM 2060 or MDIA 1450
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to explain the development of the conventions of film editing.
  • Students will be able to apply conventions of montage and dialog editing.
  • Students will be able to analyze an edit in terms of motion paths, composition, eyetrace, and pacing.
