EDPL 3620 - Hip-Hop Education in Practice

This course explores the performance of pedagogy as students engage in the first semester of the professional internship in an elementary, middle, or secondary classroom. It is a nod to hip-hop artists being the ultimate pedagogues using call and response, crowd motivation, and openers and closers to rock a crowd. Students use hip-hop as a lens to understand equitable discipline practices, positive relationship building and engagement practices. They focus on designing curriculum using culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy, connections to youth culture, and alignment to educational standards including the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession.
