NRSE 3112 - Scholarship for Nursing Practice


Introduces basic concepts, processes, and applications of nursing research and evidence to improve clinical practice and client outcomes. Students focus on the integration of current evidence and clinical expertise, with individual and family preferences, to improve professional nursing practice and healthcare outcomes. Students develop skills for working in the interprofessional teams that initiate, implement, and evaluate innovative practice changes that are culturally responsive and socially just.

Requisites: NRSE 2202, NRSE 2212, NRSE 2222. WARNING No credit if NRSE 3251 or 3251A
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to discuss ethical and legal issues related to the research process.
  • Students will be able to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the nurse with regards to evidence-based practice and scientific inquiry.
  • Students will be able to recognize the impact of equity issues in research.
  • Students will be able to utilize patient, Intervention, comparison, and outcome question(s) for framing clinical inquiry.
  • Students will be able to identify theoretical frameworks applicable to evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Students will be able to utilize literature search strategies to obtain best evidence for practice.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic elements of nursing research methodology and scientific inquiry.
  • Students will be able to apply critical appraisal techniques to selected evidence.
  • Students will be able to participate in the evaluation of outcomes and their implications for nursing practice.
