NRSE 4202 - Professional Essentials and Applications of Clinical Judgment VII


Nursing informatics for improving client outcomes and supporting a safe healthcare environment are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the use of information and communication technology to support healthcare decision-making for clients, healthcare consumers, and professional colleagues. Utilizes clinical reasoning and clinical judgment as they relate to the content delivered in pre- and co-requisite nursing courses.

Requisites: NRSE 4102, 4112, 4122, 4132

  • Students will be able to describe the various information and communication technology tools used in the care of clients, communities, and populations.
  • Students will be able to describe ethical, legal, professional, regulatory standards, and workplace policies related to the use of information and communication technologies in the delivery of care.
  • Students will be able to describe the importance of standardized nursing data to reflect the unique contribution of nursing practice.
  • Students will be able to describe client health documentation on public and population health data.
  • Students will be able to identify social networking applications appropriate for healthcare consumers.
  • Students will be able to discuss how information and communication technologies and informatics processes are used to deliver safe nursing care to diverse populations in a variety of settings.
  • Students will be able to describe how decision-support tools impact clinical judgment and client care.
  • Students will be able to apply clinical reasoning and clinical judgment as it relates to content delivered in pre- and co-requisite nursing courses.
