FILM 4600 - Capstone Film Project I: Development and Preproduction


This is the first in a 3-course series of film production, covering the development, organization, and production of a capstone film. This course emphasizes the preparation for and organization of a film produced in a professional production context. Students take on roles as film crew members to organize a film shoot.

Requisites: Film majors only and FILM 3110
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 laboratory
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to create a production team with individual roles to develop and preproduce a capstone short film.
  • Students will be able to evaluate the narrative structures and production challenges of different story ideas.
  • Students will be able to analyze screenplays in order to articulate the underlying story structure and thematic elements.
  • Students will be able to apply visual design principals to their script.
  • Students will be able to communicate effectively in a team setting.
  • Students will be able to incorporate the work and ideas of diverse team members within the creative process.
