Speaking and writing development in French through an exploration of diverse cultural materials and topics of French-speaking countries.

Requisites: FR 2120 or French placement level 3110

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to compare cultural perspectives and express insights about their own cultural beliefs and preconceptions.
  • Students will be able to discuss the intersections between the cultures of French-speaking countries and their history, values, politics, communication styles, economy, or beliefs and practices.
  • Students will be able to experience and interpret intercultural activities without preconceived biases and demonstrate cultural sensitivity in their interactions with others.
  • Students will be able to ask thoughtful questions of the cultures of French-speaking countries and respond in a way that reflects multicultural perspectives.
  • Students will be able to recognize verbal and non-verbal modalities of French and the cultures of French-speaking countries and employ them successfully in communication.
  • Students will be able to initiate and maintain interactions with culturally different others and withhold judgement while making comparisons with their own culture.
