LING 4940 - Research Experience in Linguistics
In this research practicum, students work with faculty on the professor’s research projects. By collaborating on the implementation of a research design, and the evaluation and presentation of the the results, students have the opportunity to reflect on how this research capstone connects with everything they have studied in linguistics.
Requisites: Permission required and LING 3500
Credit Hours: 3
OHIO BRICKS: Bridge: Learning and Doing, Capstone: Capstone or Culminating Experience
Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 6.0 hours.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 research

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to explain what research in linguistics consists of.
- Students will be able to describe the research agenda and the research techniques of the faculty member they will be working with.
- Students will be able to read previous research articles and how to extract relevant information.
- Students will be able to make connections between their previous academic study in Linguistics and the needs of the research experience.
- Students will be able to adapt and apply skills, abilities, theories, or methodologies acquired in their previous Linguistics courses to the research project.
- Students will be able to contribute to the lucidity of the format, language, or visual representation of the research findings.
- Students will be able to demonstrate a developing sense of self as a learner and build on prior experience in Linguistics to meet the challenge of collaborating on a real Linguistics research project.
