MATH 4100L - Mathematics Teaching in Secondary School Field Experience
Field experience for students in teaching mathematics in secondary schools. Requires 150 hours of observation and teaching in local school assigned by Patton College Clinical Office. Must be taken concurrently with Math 4100 or 5100.
Requisites: MATH 4100 concurrent and completing Professional Internship 1 concurrently
Credit Hours: 1
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 laboratory

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to implement lesson plans and assessments in grades 7-12 mathematics classrooms that are build on research-based practice in mathematics education and state learning standards.
- Students will be able to use multiple strategies to support mathematics instruction including differentiation to meet the needs of all learners.
- Students will be able to illustrate how to use technology (including graphing calculators, software, video, and internet) and identify benefits and obstacles of these technologies for fostering student learning.
- Students will be able to demonstrate effective questioning strategies for the grades 7-12 classroom that promote mathematical thinking and discourse.
- Students will be able to identify typical mathematical misconceptions of students in grades 7-12.
- Students will be able to analyze their teaching and that of others using research-based frameworks.
