THAR 2390 - Theatrical Design Skills: The Text and Concept
A collaborative approach to expanding fundamental design skills, visual research, and script analysis as applied to developing a theatrical design concept.
Requisites: THAR 1390
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:
- The ability to create compelling character and atmosphere research collages, communicative rough sketches, basic drafting and model building.
- The ability to delineate environment and events through the use of selective details of architecture and environment that stylistically work in harmony with the actors, the set, and the director’s approach to a production .
- The ability to evoke mood, express harmony and contrast, and control focus in compositions through the manipulation of color, texture, line, shape, balance and rhythm.
- The ability to identify themes, character contrasts, events and progressive story lines in scripts and evaluate their relevance for a contemporary audience.
- The ability to research and analyze the environment and architecture of different periods or societies and apply the research to the world of a play.
