REC 1160 - Stand Up Paddleboarding
Introduces students to the knowledge and skills needed to safely and enjoyably stand up paddleboard on gentle rivers, lakes, and other flatwater settings.
Credit Hours: 1

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to identify and describe equipment, clothing, and accessories needed for safe and enjoyable stand up paddleboard adventures.
- Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in performing basic stand up paddleboard strokes, techniques, and maneuvers.
- Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in performing basic self- and assisted-rescue techniques in stand up paddleboarding.
- Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in basic navigation and travel techniques.
- Students will be able to formulate an energy control plan that takes into consideration such factors as nutrition, fitness, and the physical demands of stand up paddleboarding.
- Students will be able to apply basic principles of safety and risk management in minimizing accident potential in stand up paddleboarding.
- Students will be able to apply knowledge from the discipline of environmental ethics to minimize environmental and social impacts related to stand up paddleboarding.
- Students will be able to develop trip plans for single and multiday stand up paddleboarding experiences.
- Students will be able to engage in stand up paddleboarding as an ongoing leisure pursuit.
- Students will be able to articulate the general value of stand up paddleboarding from various disciplinary perspectives, including such disciplines as natural resource management, public health, and parks, recreation and leisure studies.
- Students will be able to meaningfully communicate learning in appropriate formats and language.
- Students will be able to demonstrate a sense of self by reflecting on lessons learned through multiple field experiences.
