IHS 3700 - Writing in the Health Sciences and Professions


Explores different formats specifically utilized within the health sciences and professions. Provides a platform for students to develop and practice their writing and interpretation of written communication skills.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the context and purpose for writing such that the text has the writer’s intended effect on the audience in healthcare.
  • Students will be able to use appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to illustrate mastery of the subject, conveying the writer’s understanding, and shaping the whole work.
  • Students will be able to apply strategies of effective writing through the formats typical of technical writing using effective syntax and mechanics effectively to communicate ideas.
  • Students will be able to apply source texts (written, oral, behavioral, visual, or other) to extend, argue with, develop, define, or shape the writer’s ideas.
