SLS 3010 - Ethics and Risk Management in Sport and Physical Activity


This course addresses ethics, safety and risk management principles and practices related to sport and recreation programs. Viewpoints for the individual and community at large are examined. Ethical decision-making steps are applied to current event issues in sport and leisure. The relationship between ethics and risk reduction are assessed through the development of a risk management plan.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to describe their own ethical core beliefs related to issues in sport and recreation;
  • Students will be able to explain contemporary theories and concepts of ethical thinking;
  • Students will be able to apply the steps of ethical decision making in relation to a current issue in sport and recreation;
  • Students will be able to analyze the connection between ethics and risk management;
  • Students will be able to engage in dialogue concerning issues critical to the reduction of risk in sport and recreation;
  • Students will be able to apply the steps of ethical decision making in constructing a risk management plan.
