AT 3693 - Musculoskeletal Movement in Performing Arts


A study of the demands placed on the human body in dance, music, and theater from musculoskeletal perspectives that include anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, and healthcare. Scientific research and case studies highlight the musculoskeletal system and performing arts injuries. Creation and delivery of oral presentations are significant media for gaining mastery of the scientific concepts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to use unbiased terminology to identify and describe the function of the anatomical structures involved in movement of the human body.
  • Students will be able to explain how the musculoskeletal system operates and adapts to execute movements in performing artists.
  • Students will be able to analyze and interpret scientific research that supports the principles of movement-related topics in performing arts as a foundation for an oral presentation.
  • Students will be able to create and deliver an original oral presentation about the movements of performing artists that articulates a precise, compelling, and memorable message to improve artists’ capacity for movement.
  • Students will be able to organize the contents of a presentation, incorporate supporting materials effectively, and deliver the presentation using appropriate verbal and non-verbal language.
