Program Overview

The English minor offers students an overview of the history, conventions, and practices of literature and rhetoric in English, while allowing them to experience a diversity of texts through electives of their choice. The emphasis on critical thinking and analytical writing makes the English minor valuable for students who are pursuing majors in a variety of disciplines, including the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Students in the English minor program also have the opportunity to develop their skills as writers of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction prose.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

Enrollment in the English minor entails no requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Change of Program Policy

For students currently enrolled at Ohio University, adding the English minor requires a 2.0 GPA. Students choosing to add this program should contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the English Department for assistance.

External Transfer Admission

For students currently enrolled at institutions other than Ohio University, transferring into the English minor entails no requirements beyond University admission requirements. Students should contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the English Department for assistance.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Completion of the English minor will enable students to pursue career opportunities in which critical analysis of information and highly-developed writing skills are required.
