Program Overview
The Studio Art minor is designed for students majoring in other fields who want to expand their knowledge of the history, theory, and practice of studio art. Students have the opportunity to focus their program by enrolling in six studio courses, or to divide their time between a blend of studio and lecture courses. If a student chooses to focus fully on studio courses, they should consider selecting one concentration area (Ceramics, Graphic Design, Interior Architecture, Painting + Drawing, Photography + Integrated Media, Printmaking, or Sculpture + Expanded Practice) so that they meet the requisites for 3000-level studio courses in that area.
Additional advising information can be obtained in the School of Art + Design office, 528 Seigfred Hall.
Admissions Information
To declare a Studio Art minor, students should contact their College’s student services office to officially designate this minor. Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA in the minor for conferral.
Opportunities Upon Graduation
The Studio Art minor will enable students to synthesize and analyze information from many different sources in order to imagine possibilities, improve decision-making, and communicate clearly. These skills will assist students in a variety of career paths that rely on critical thinking, cultural literacy, and intuition in order to be successful. Common pairings of the studio art minor are majors in: Business, Marketing, Journalism, Political Science, Psychology (toward Art Therapy degrees), Creative Writing, English - Pre-Law, Media Arts and any of the Visual Communication fields.
