Program Overview

The purpose of the Financial Programming Certificate program is to develop competencies and applied skills necessary for success and advancement in positions at the intersection of finance and technology. Certificate graduates will have an understanding of the areas within finance that are most impacted by technology while learning multiple computer programming languages applicable to these areas.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

Admission into the financial programming certificate program is competitive. For consideration, applicants are required to submit a completed application form, a copy of their most recent DARS indicating an overall GPA of at least 2.75, and a resume which demonstrates characteristics necessary for successful completion of the program, for example, an above average GPA, strong work ethic, previous bank experience or coursework, leadership positions, membership in student organizations, etc. In addition, an interview with finance department faculty may be required. Contact the finance department for an application.

Change of Program Policy

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Certificate completers will have an understanding of the areas within finance that are most impacted by technology while learning multiple computer programming languages applicable to these areas. Students will learn about financial markets, institutions, and assets; the basics of programming and program structure; and how to obtain, organize, analyze, and present financial data.The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates healthy employment and salary data for positions in which financial programming would be beneficial. Possible careers include, but are not limited to: Securities, Commodities, and Financial Services Sales Agent; Operations Research Analyst; Financial Analyst; Database Administrator; Computer and Information Research Scientist.
