Ohio University Athens Testing Center policies

We are dedicated to upholding high standards of test security and academic integrity. Our goal is to provide a testing environment that is efficient, fair, and secure for all students. By scheduling an exam at the Athens Testing Center, faculty and students agree to the following policies:

Late Arrivals & No-Shows

  • Late Arrival Policy: If students arrive late for the scheduled test, they may not be permitted to test, and no extra time will be provided. Late arrivals may need to reschedule through the instructor.
  • No-Show Policy: If students fail to show up for the scheduled exam without prior notification, they may forfeit the ability to reschedule and must contact their instructor for further instructions.

Rescheduling and Cancellations

  • Rescheduling and Cancellations: If students need to cancel or reschedule their exam, they should do so at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to do so may result in restrictions on future scheduling or require approval from the instructor for rescheduling.

Illness or Emergency

  • Illness or Emergency: If students are ill or have an emergency on the day of their exam, they must contact OHIO Testing Services as soon as possible. Rescheduling due to illness or emergency is at the discretion of the instructor.
  • Inclement Weather and University Closures: The Athens Testing Center follows university policy regarding closures due to inclement weather. If the center closes, our staff will work with the student to reschedule their exam for a later date. Please monitor university announcements for closure updates.

Behavior and Conduct

  • Behavior Policy: To ensure a positive and low-distraction environment, courteous and respectful behavior toward proctors and other students is expected. Disruptive behavior may result in dismissal from the testing center. If students require assistance, they should raise their hand or notify a proctor quietly.
  • Cheating or Misconduct: Any suspected cheating or misconduct will result in immediate termination of the exam and will be reported to the instructor for further action.
  • Cleanliness: Please respect the testing environment. No food, drinks, or gum are allowed. Students are responsible for keeping their testing area clean.

Proctored Testing Environment

  • Test Security: Tests will be administered under standardized conditions, with monitoring via video surveillance and computer software to ensure test integrity.
  • Identification: Student should arrive with  a physical, valid photo ID at least 5 minutes before their scheduled testing time for check-in. Digital copies or photos of IDs will not be accepted.
  • Testing Materials: Only materials approved by the instructor and the proctor are permitted at the testing station. Students need to bring an approved calculator if the test allows it. Only calculators  approved for ACT testing  will be permitted in the testing center. No personal devices are permitted other than approved calculators. Paper-based exams must be available no less than 24 hours before the testing appointment, or the testing appointment may be cancelled.
  • Personal Items: All personal items, including bags, notes, jackets, hats, cell phones, and watches, must be stored in secure lockers provided by the testing center.
  • Test Time Limits: Students are responsible for managing their time during the exam. No extra time will be given beyond what is allocated by the instructor without a previously approved testing accommodation.
  • Restroom Breaks: No restroom breaks are allowed once testing begins without a previously approved testing accommodation. Tests must be completed in one sitting.

Parking

  • Avoid Parking Violations: Metered parking near the testing center has 2-hour limits. Students should allow enough time for check-in and testing, as they may not leave once testing begins.
  • Parking Payment: Have exact change or a credit card ready for parking meters, as change is not available at the testing center. You can also use a parking app if available for convenience.

Accommodations for Disabilities

  • Disability Accommodations: If the student requires special accommodations, please ensure that arrangements have been made with the Office of Accessibility prior to the scheduled exam. Testing accommodations must be coordinated in advance.
