The Women’s Center has named MaryKathyrine Tran as its new assistant director. She will begin her duties on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019.
In this new position, Tran will be responsible for creating a professional and leadership development program geared towards women of color and overseeing the Young Women Leaders Program.
"I am elated to be joining the staff at the Ohio University Women's Center as the assistant director," Tran said. "I am an AmeriCorps double alum, Wisconsinite, and higher education professional who is passionate about supporting diverse students and ensuring their experience is transformative and filled with personal and professional growth. I could not be more excited to join the staff within the Office for Diversity and Inclusion and contribute to their exceptional work."
A search committee comprised of Dr. Margaux Cowden (director, Cutler Scholars Program; director, OHIO Honors Program), Sharon Casapulla, EdD (director, Rural & Urban Scholars Pathways Program), Shai Pina (administrative specialist, Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies), and Ami Scherson (undergraduate, Margaret Boyd Scholar) reviewed a number of highly qualified candidates before selecting Tran for the position.
"MaryKathyrine’s experience with Hardy Girls Healthy Women and the Women’s Center at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh will allow her to bring insight into our program development and expansion," said Dr. M. Geneva Murray, director of the Ohio University Women's Center. "I’m excited for her dedication in focusing on women of color’s experiences and her enthusiasm for programming for early adolescents. She will be a valuable member of our team."
