An additional review of statistics reported in Ohio University’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report has determined that several minor corrections were necessary.
All numbers in the 2018 and 2019 reports were submitted correctly through the U.S. Department of Education’s Campus Safety and Security Survey. However, when the statistics were entered into the 2019 survey, staff noted discrepancies and determined that some numbers had been entered into tables incorrectly in the annual security reports, which were created in accordance with the federal Clery Act.
The corrections to the 2019 report are:
- The report indicated there were four robberies on the Athens Campus in 2017; there were three.
- The report showed zero unfounded crimes on the Athens Campus in 2017; there was one unfounded burglary. This error was also reflected in the 2018 report.
- The report showed one liquor law violation arrest on the Dublin campus in 2017; there were zero. It also showed zero such arrests on the Dublin campus in 2016, while there was one.
- The report showed one liquor law violation arrest on the Eastern Campus in 2017; there were zero.
- The report showed zero burglaries on the Southern Campus in 2016; there was one. This was also reflected on the 2018 report.
- Also on the Southern Campus, the report showed one robbery on campus in 2016; there were zero. It also showed one burglary on non-campus property in 2016, one robbery on public property in 2016, and one domestic violence incident on public property in 2016; there were zero of each. It also showed there were no weapons arrests on-campus in 2018; there was one.
- On the Zanesville Campus, the report showed there was one on-campus robbery, one robbery on public property, one burglary on non-campus property, and one domestic violence incident on public property, all in 2016; there were none of each. The report also showed zero stalking incidents on campus in 2017; there were two.
Ohio University also discovered three statistics from 2016 that were submitted incorrectly to the survey in 2017 but were reported correctly in the annual report. They are being updated through the Department of Education’s Campus Safety and Security Survey.
Those changes are:
- Arrests for drug abuse violations on the Athens Campus for 2016 were submitted as 273, but the 2017, 2018 and 2019 annual reports show the number as 278, which is correct.
- Arrests for drug abuse violations in residence halls in 2016 were submitted as 109, but the 2017, 2018 and 2019 annual reports show the number as 112, which is correct.
- Arrests for liquor law violations on the Dublin campus for 2016 were submitted as zero, but the 2017 and 2018 annual reports show the number as one, which is correct.
