CHSP to host 'Experiencing Health Professions: From Science to Practice' event on Feb. 27

Event to feature, highlight the research work of numerous OHIO faculty and instructors

Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP) will host “Experiencing Health Professions: From Science to Practice” on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Grover Center on Ohio University’s Athens Campus.

Tours and activities will be available from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and also from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Special presentations will be given in rooms E234 and E238 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

“Experiencing Health Professions” will feature and highlight the research work of numerous OHIO faculty and instructors through building/lab tours and numerous hands-on activities, including virtual reality nursing simulations, exercise and biomechanics testing, noise and hearing demonstrations and more. The event will also include displays from diverse healthcare professions.

“We are incredibly excited to open our doors and allow people to get an inside look at the amazing research work being created by OHIO’s faculty and staff,” said John McCarthy, associate dean for the College of Health Sciences and Professions. “CHSP prides itself on being a college that provides healthcare professionals with the skills necessary for making the world a healthier place, and we’d like to show people exactly how we’re doing that and how we interact around health with colleagues throughout the University.”

Visitors are encouraged to participate in recurring building tours and experience various research activities any time between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. The day’s events will be highlighted by multiple presentations from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Grover Center E234 and E238 that will highlight how research and innovative instructional techniques are being used to enhance student learning and community outcomes.

Room E234 will feature a demonstration on learning skills in the classroom and applying them to a clinical setting, a demonstration on using technology to improve sports performance and an activity on observation and participation in community outreach activities.

In room E238, presentations will focus on virtual reality in healthcare education, an ongoing community-university project examining HIV and hepatitis C infections and a discussion on a community-university research project that maps community assets in Southeast Ohio.
