Ohio University supports all of our communities in wake of recent events

The following message was shared with the campus community on May 16, 2022.

To our Ohio University community,

The tragic events of the past few days across America have left us shaken and deeply saddened. Shootings in Buffalo, Dallas and Orange County, Calif., all apparently racially motivated, are a grim reminder that we must stand up to hate in all its forms and embrace diversity at every opportunity.

Our community includes people from all backgrounds, including Black and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and we honor and support every one of them. We condemn all acts of violence and hate in the strongest possible terms, and we offer our support to those in our community who have been impacted by this terrible news.

Ohio University offers a variety of support resources to our students. If you believe you would benefit from support for your psychological and emotional well-being, please consider the resources listed below.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS)

  • CPS provides mental health and adjustment services to students and also consultation to faculty, administrators and parents who support our students.
  • Psychiatry and individual counseling through face-to-face video conferencing or audio phone therapy are just some of the services available to students through CPS.
  • Staff members in CPS also make referrals to a wide range of support services both on and off campus. Students may contact CPS at any time by calling 740-593-1616. If calling after hours, press 1 to be connected to a counselor. You can also visit their website at  www.ohio.edu/student-affairs/counseling .
