On Feb. 9, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provided a formal 90-day notice that the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) will end on May 11, 2023.
The end of the Public Health Emergency impacts how testing for COVID-19 will be covered.
- Over-the-counter (OTC) at-home COVID-19 test kits will no longer be covered by Anthem and CVS Caremark starting May 12, 2023.
- Covid tests conducted at a physician’s office or clinic under the direction of a physician will continue to be covered by Anthem and are subject the health insurance plan annual deductible and co-insurance. Office visit copays may apply.
- Coverage of COVID-19 vaccines will be continue to be covered at 100 percent with no member cost share for in-network services. Out-of-network coverage will be subject to normal plan rules for out-of-network services on May 12, 2023.
