Plagiarism detection tool vendor demonstrations to be held Oct. 15-16

Vendors who responded to the plagiarism detection tool request for proposal (RFP) have been invited to provide demonstrations to the Ohio University community in October.

Vendor representatives will each provide an overview of their platform and key features of the student and instructor experience.

The following virtual sessions will be available to the University community, and they will be recorded for those who cannot attend at the scheduled time. Participants will be able to submit additional feedback after watching the presentations. Meeting links and names of vendors can be accessed on the Vendor Demonstration Information Document , which requires an OHIO ID to view.

Vendors will be hosting demonstrations at the following times:

• Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, 9-10 a.m.
• Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, 9-10 a.m.

Although any OHIO instructor, student, or staff member is welcome to participate in the demonstrations, interested members of the OHIO community are encouraged to register ahead of time. Those who register for the demonstrations will receive reminders about the demonstrations and prompts to provide feedback.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) launched the RFP process with the support of the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost to select a plagiarism detection tool that best aligns with the University's evolving teaching and learning goals. Based on University feedback and thorough technical evaluations, the RFP Evaluation Committee will make a recommendation to either select a new plagiarism detection tool or continue with Turnitin, OHIO’s current vendor.

Why is OHIO evaluating this tool?

Through this evaluation project, Ohio University is analyzing the needs of our academic programs, faculty, and students for plagiarism detection. The University leveraged Turnitin as its primary plagiarism detection tool for several years and SafeAssign was also offered through Blackboard.

With OHIO’s move to Canvas , the changing needs of our academic programs, and the evolving marketplace, OIT launched an evaluation project to understand what technology or technologies are best suited to support OHIO’s goals in the future.  

What are the next steps?

At the conclusion of the vendor demonstrations, the RFP Evaluation Committee will complete its analysis and make a recommendation to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. Vendor negotiations will be conducted in the late fall, and, if a new vendor is selected or our license changes, an implementation timeline will be announced in spring 2025.
