Celebrating Tony Marino: A legacy of leadership, commitment

The Walter Center for Strategic Leadership is proud to honor the 2024 Legacy Award recipient, Tony Marino, in recognition of his unwavering dedication and support for student experiences.

Marino graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ohio University in 1985 and has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the College of Business. Currently, he serves as the chief human resource officer and senior advisor at Fiserv, a leading company that facilitates the movement of money for businesses globally.

Through his generosity and that of Fiserv, Marino funds trips and leadership development tools for the Wandell Leadership Fellows and the Human Resources certificate program , providing students with invaluable hands-on experience in the business world. His approach is characterized by a genuine interest in those around him, showcasing compassion and mentorship in every interaction.

Marino’s investment in students is truly exceptional. He sponsors the Wandell Fellows’ sophomore networking trip, allowing students to visit prominent companies in cities like New York City and Atlanta. Additionally, he has provided students with the opportunity to complete the industry-leading “Inclusive Leader” leadership style assessment prior to their trip, enhancing their professional development.

Grace Cantwell, the Wandell Fellows vice president of communication, reflected on the profound impact Marino had during last year’s networking trip.

“You could tell that he cared so much about us as people; he saw something in us. It was incredible to see someone so successful and intelligent be so invested in a group of students he didn’t know at all,” Cantwell said.

Marino also arranged a memorable experience for the Wandell Fellows, offering them a tour of the New York Stock Exchange during the closing bell, further enriching their understanding of the financial world.

His passion for transforming OHIO students into successful global leaders is evident in the numerous internships and full-time positions offered to students at Fiserv, thanks to his advocacy.

Marino was presented with the Legacy Award during this year’s networking trip to New York City, joining an esteemed group of past recipients, including Frank Zammataro, Betsy Lancaster, Tim and Tammy Reynolds, and Greg Moran, all of whom have significantly contributed to the success of the Walter Center and the College of Business community.

The Walter Center, Wandell Fellows, and HR program extend their heartfelt gratitude to Marino for his steadfast commitment to Ohio University.
