Forney is dedicated to alleviating the burden associated with eating disorders and disordered eating. Her research focuses on social (peers), psychological (body image concerns, anxiety), and biological (weight loss, gastrointestinal symptoms) factors that increase the risk for eating disorders and maintain symptoms over time. By identifying which factors are responsible for eating disorders, prevention and treatment efforts can be tailored to improve outcomes.
She trains doctoral students in Ohio University’s APA accredited clinical psychology doctoral program in the principles of psychological assessment and supervises their first therapy experience. She also mentors undergraduate and graduate students in conducting research.
An Ohio native, Forney completed her undergraduate degree at Miami University. She received her doctoral degree from Florida State University. She is also a practicing clinical psychologist.
