Update:On Thursday, May 22 , Ohio University filed a Notice of Appeal with the State Employment Relations Board (SERB) regarding its recent Board Order. A copy of the appeal and all related exhibits is available online; these documents provide relevant background and context in support of the University’s position, and it would be premature for the University to comment further on this matter until it has concluded.
Additionally, the United Academics of Ohio University (UAOU) has formally submitted its Notice to Negotiate to SERB, and both parties are currently working to identify mutually agreeable dates and times to begin engaging in the process of negotiating on matters subject to collective bargaining as outlined in Ohio Revised Code Section 4117.08 while the University’s appeal moves forward.
In Spring 2024, the United Academics of Ohio University (UAOU) filed a petition with the Ohio State Employment Relations Board (SERB) to be recognized as a collective bargaining unit on behalf of all faculty. In November 2024, Ohio University reached a tentative agreement with national union organizers representing UAOU on a proposed voting unit description.
University leadership continues to hear from faculty who support the formation of a union and others who oppose unionization. We remain committed to sharing information as it becomes available to help ensure that 1) all faculty have a voice in the process and the outcome and 2) the University community has a broad understanding of the issues and impacts this process may have.
