About the Collection

The onlinedigital collection features samples of Barnett Hook’s needlework, promotional materials, business records, photographs of Hook and his friends and family, and the 1993 exhibit catalog for Master of Fancy Needlework: Barnett A. Hook, McArthur, Ohio 1845-1926 which includes an extensive biographical sketch on Hook.

About Barnett A. Hook

Barnett A. Hook (1845-1926) was a native of Vinton County, Ohio, from the rural village of McArthur. Hook pursued a living in various arenas over his life, including as a farmhand, National Guardsman (Civil War), school teacher, newspaper publisher, horse breeder/trainer, caterer, nurse, fair exhibit designer--but perhaps best known as a fancy needlework promoter, practitioner, instructor, and salesperson.
