Zefazone™ is a surgical antibiotic used in intrabdominal and pelvic surgery. This critical zone of inhibition is visually interpreted metaphorically in the mnemonic. The poster was designed for the Upjohn Company, a pharmaceutical manufacturing firm founded in 1886 by William E. Upjohn. The standards manual was created for consistency throughout all promotional material.

T h e poster for hospitals was designed by Tricia Hennessey, Kalamazoo, Michigan. It recognizes Z ephazone ™ as being effective with in a zone of inhibition . Specifically used for inter-abdominal and pelvic surgery , Z ephazone ™ was designed to attack infections caused by any bile entering into that area of the surgery. The poster designs interpreted these conditions by visual ly articulat ing the message through image and typographic placement.
