Ohio University has canceled all University events across our campuses and locations until April 30. This includes events at all campuses and locations, alumni and Admissions events, as well as contracted events scheduled to be held in University buildings. The point of contact for each event will receive a cancellation notice from the University’s reservation system.
This decision expands on the University’s March 10 decision to cancel events through March 30 and is in line with the Ohio Department of Health’s order to prohibit mass gatherings of 100 or more as well as the University’s decision to reduce density on its campuses by moving most employees to a remote work environment.
The University will continue to allow the use of its designated facilities for polling for the state’s Tuesday, March 17 primary election and will encourage social distancing for individuals utilizing the polling locations on OHIO campuses.
Admissions Events
The cancellation of events includes all on-campus visits and events for prospective and admitted students previously scheduled through April 30, 2020. This includes our prospective and admitted student daily campus visits and tours on the Athens and regional campuses, academic department visits, group visits to the Athens or regional campuses, OHIO Up Close, Cultural Connections, OHIO Transfer Day, OHIO Honors and Scholars Day, and Experience Scripps Day.
Additionally, all of our off-campus Admissions programs and events are canceled, including the Rufus Road Trip and OHIO Overview events. Up to date information about virtual visit opportunities and new in-person visits and events will be available on the Undergraduate Admissions website as the schedule of offerings evolves. Updated information about visits to regional campuses will be available through the campus student services office.
Undergraduate Admissions will offer a variety of alternative format virtual “visit” experiences in the coming weeks for prospective and admitted students and their families. All future Bobcats are encouraged to experience the existing virtual tour with customized tour options that allow you to explore the Athens campus, housing and dining, athletics, and the arts at OHIO.
Alumni Events
In addition, all alumni and donor events are being postponed, canceled or converted to virtual meetings until April 30, 2020. This includes activities to be held on any of OHIO’s campuses as well as regional alumni network events scheduled in cities across the U.S.
The Ohio University Foundation and the OHIO Alumni Association thank those who were planning to attend upcoming events for their understanding and partnership as we work to maintain the health and well-being of the entire OHIO family. In addition, they are encouraging alumni who would like to support students who may be impacted by the coronavirus outbreak, including unexpected costs related to travel, housing, loss of employment, or other impacts, to make a gift to the Division of Student Affairs Support Fund, which supports OHIO’s Division of Student Affairs’ efforts to respond to immediate student needs.
