The College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP) is pleased to announce Dr. Kristin Schuller as the new director of the Department of Social and Public Health (SPH).
Schuller, who is currently an associate professor within SPH , will officially begin her new role at the beginning of Fall Semester 2021.
“Kristin’s passion for teaching and research is on display each day, and her continued commitment to her craft, combined with the overwhelming support she’s received from her peers to take on this new leadership role, make her the perfect choice for SPH’s next director,” said Interim Dean John McCarthy. “I’m excited to work with Kristin and continue to elevate CHSP’s health and social service offerings to a national level.”
Schuller is well known across the college and by her colleagues for her relentless commitment to student support and service in health.
"Thank you to my SPH colleagues and Dean McCarthy for supporting my new leadership role,” Schuller said. “I am looking forward to collaborating with the CHSP leadership team, promoting the important scholarly and creative activities conducted by SPH faculty and students, advocating for evidence-based social and public health practices and continuing to build community partnerships that align with the mission of CHSP.”
Schuller will be replacing current SPH director Dr. Michele Morrone, who plans to serve in an increased capacity within CHSP’s Environmental Health Science program and continue to foster social and public health collaborations across the region.
“Michele has provided excellent leadership to the unit, and I’m happy to see her provide continued contributions in CHSP programs,” Interim Dean McCarthy said.
Schuller, a 2007 OHIO graduate in health services administration, received her Ph.D. in health services policy and management from the University of South Carolina in 2012.
She returned to OHIO in 2015 as an assistant professor in SPH’s Health Services Administration program and was elevated to the role of associate professor in April 2020.
Her current research and professional areas or interest include improving access to care in rural areas, enhancing quality of care delivered in healthcare organizations and determining how health policies affect access to and quality of care provided.
