Hartman appointed Associate Provost for Faculty Development

Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs announced the appointment of Dr. Katie Hartman as Associate Provost for Faculty Development. Hartman currently serves as an Associate Dean in the College of Business at Ohio University and is the Fox Professor of Marketing. Hartman will begin on July 16. 

“Dr. Hartman’s analytical approach to enhancing academic systems is surpassed only by her commitment to excellence in teaching and assessment of student learning. She has led University initiatives with a clear plan for achieving exceptional outcomes,” Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs said. “Katie is a champion of assessment of learning and is driven by the desire to provide the best educational experiences for every student. There is more that we can do to build and grow faculty development initiatives, opportunities, and strategies and she is a clear choice to support faculty across all colleges and campuses.” 

Hartman has extensive academic leadership experience. A faculty member in the College of Business since 2012, Hartman previously served as chair of the department of marketing and most recently as the director of undergraduate programs and assessment. Her University level service includes six years as a Faculty Senator, where she also served as Secretary and Chair of Educational Policies and Student Affairs committee. Hartman co-led the Realize General Education Reform strategic initiative which launches the BRICKS general education program in fall 2021. Hartman also served as the UCC general education committee chair and as a Provost Faculty Fellow for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment. 

The associate provost for faculty development is part of the executive vice provost and president’s senior staff and is responsible for supporting faculty development. As Associate Provost, Hartman will lead design and implementation of holistic strategies for instructional and tenure-track faculty, enhance new faculty orientation programs, and implement professional development workshops to support faculty members and chairs/directors throughout their careers. Hartman will also support the next phase of One OHIO integration of faculty across academic program and locations.

“I am excited to begin collaborating with department chairs, school directors, faculty leadership, and individual faculty to support faculty development at all career stages,” Hartman said. “At Ohio University, I have had the privilege of working with incredibly talented faculty from different departments, colleges, and campuses. I am always impressed by exceptional dedication and determination of our faculty community. My goal is to collaborate with others to identify ways that we can better support all OHIO faculty.”
